Steven Blauweiss is a native of Manhattan and was a resident of the mid-Hudson Valley for 25 years, until 2024. He is currently living in Europe. An independent filmmaker, historian, and graphic designer for 35 years, he is immersed in all aspects of his projects from concept through final production, including photography and photo retouching.
Blauweiss has produced films on a wide variety of subjects, from art and education to social and environmental issues, including three features and more than 75 shorts, mostly about artists, 20 of which have aired on PBS. Some of the short films were included in museum exhibitions at the New York State Museum, Mass MoCA, the Albany Institute of History & Art, and the Dorsky Museum of Art.
Deeply immersed in history, especially that of the Hudson Valley, Blauweiss co-produced and co-directed the documentary "Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Removal," and is currently in production on a new feature documentary, "Sharkey & His Pals". Blauweiss and his production partner Karen Berelowitz co-authored and published two books: "The Life & Death of the Kingston Post Office" and "The Story of Historic Kingston". They are working on a third book about their new hometown, Leuven, Belgium.
