"Burning Man"

  • Artists Talk On Art, Inc New York, NY United States (map)

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

As a co-founder of Burning Man, the Black Rock Arts Foundation and Burning Man Project, Crimson Rose’s life passion and work have focused on the arts and artistic expression. She began participating in the Burning Man event in 1991, and developed the organization’s Art Department, including the infrastructure, financial and other support services that make possible the large-scale participatory art works that Burning Man is renowned for. With Crimson’s guidance, Burning Man serves as an inspirational limitless canvas, the works of which now find public placement in cities around the world and serve as catalytic sparks for community collaboration.

Kal Spelletich

Born in Davenport, Iowa, 1960, (named the worst city in America). He was raised in a right-wing Christian home and fled and was driven out when he was 15. He lived on the streets, squatted, in illegal warehouses, went to Art school, somehow got two degrees, and has worked at a myriad of jobs from Factories, Marijuana farming, Night attendant at a psych ward, Carpenter, Special effects for films, TV Personality, Dishwasher and College professor to name a few.

Where many artists outsource the fabrication of sculptures in industrial materials, Spelletich insists on fabricating, sourcing, wiring, programming and you name it, building the often extremely complex technologies of his work. It is often slow-going. But in year 42 much has been accomplished. “I have notebooks full of ideas”, he says, “Years of ideas, I make/create a piece and I think of 6 more.” The process is slow managing the machines himself without even the help of assistants. The work, these machines, and robots, are not for washing windows nor helping you do chores, they are for enlightenment, poetry, magic. “I enjoy misusing technology”, misapplying it, poetically using it

Tahoe Mack is a multidisciplinary artist integrating steel, fabric, wood, found objects, and photography to create immersive works that bridge history, environment, and community. Raised in Las Vegas, she developed an early passion for large-scale public art and advocacy. At 15, she led the creation of The Monumental Mammoth, a towering steel sculpture designed to raise awareness for Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument. Selected for Burning Man’s prestigious Honorarium Program in 2019, the piece now stands permanently at Ice Age Fossils State Park.

Mack pursued a BFA in Sculpture at the University of Oregon, exhibiting work at the Lawrence Kruse Gallery and leading public installations on campus and in Downtown Eugene. Her art transforms material into narrative, engaging audiences beyond traditional gallery spaces. She is drawn to sculpture’s power to inspire dialogue, honor history, and activate collective action. Through bold, site-responsive works, Mack continues to explore the intersection of art, activism, and environmental consciousness.
