Staats Fasoldt served as President of the Board of Directors of the Woodstock School of Art’ and has taught painting and drawing there for 35 years. He worked with Robert Angeloch over many years developing and promoting the WSA.
He is active member of the Woodstock Artist’s Association and an active member ofThe Art Society of Kingston, where he has also served as a Board member and President. He is a member of Longreach Arts, the Hudson Valley’s premier mobile Artists Co-op.
Staats has an MFA in painting from Suny New Paltz, where Painter Alex Martin became his advisor and a life long friend.
Staats has had numerous one person and group exhibits.
This year he was honored by Ulster County and Arts mid Hudson
and named their Individual Artist of the Year.
I have worked mainly in Watercolors in my career.
Watercolorists need to be brave and a little reckless, You have to know it's capabilities and be willing to work within that range. Gravity becomes an important tool and the rules of diffusion need to be understood. it is a most beautiful medium, no solvents, quick in tempo and can be used in many different ways. My paintings are interpretations of nature that stress spontaneity and design as method.
